Kawhi Leonard was born on June 29, 1991, in Los Angeles, California, U.S. He is an Afro-American NBA basketball player born to Check Leonard and mother Kim Leonard. Further, he has four elder sisters. He faced a deep tragedy at the age of 17 due to the untimely death of his father. His Dad was murdered in 2008 at his own car wash in Compton.

In his junior year he attended Canyon Springs High School, Kawhi Leonard then transferred to Martin Luther King High School. He led the King High Wolves to a 30-3 record alongside Tony Shell while he was in his senior year. After putting up an incredible performance he was named California Mr. Basketball, Rivals.com considered him as a four-star recruit and was also listed as No. 8 small forward.

He went to San Diego State College in 2009. Leonard led the Aztecs to a record of 25-9 and the Mountain West Conference during his time as a freshman at San Diego State University. The San Diego State University won an official invitation to the NCAA tournament but was beaten by the University of Tennessee in the first round.

Leonard had an impressive performance recording 12 points and 10 rebounds in the match that saw him lead the Mountain West Conference (MWC) in rebounds and was named first-team All-MWC, MWC freshman of the year, and 2010 MWC tournament MVP.

The Aztecs earned a back-to-back league title during his sophomore season. San Diego University again made the NCAA tournament, where they advanced to the 16th round before being knocked out of the Connecticut Huskies championship, who went on to claim the championship.

Leonard made the Second Team-All American and forfeited his final two seasons at the San Diego State to enter the 2011 NBA draft.
